BE-JU 98 bergman junk test apparatus

The apparatus is used for testing chemical stability of gun propellants, nitrocellulose and other organic nitrates by Bergmann-Junk Test.

The Bergmann-Junk Test is based on quantitative determination of nitrogen oxides evolved during thermal decomposition of a sample kept at 120 or 132 °C.

The amount of nitrogen oxides is determined by acidimetric analysis of water extract of the evolved gases and it is a measure of chemical stability of the sample.

The samples in glass test tubes enclosed by a special glass adapter are inserted into holes in a heating block. The heating block maintains homogeneous temperature at predefined temperature with tolerance of ±0.2 °C. The temperature of the measurement may be set in the range from 30 to 180 °C (typically 120 or 132 °C). The method enables measurement of up to 8 samples with individual time of exposure of each one.
